This year’s program was the 59th annual and was held at Halsey Field House on February 25, 2000. Head Coach was Jim McNally assisted by Mr. Jim Searing and Capt Earl Checkley USMC. Bouts this year included: 125 #’s Pat Benito vs. T. Alford In 2000 Navy placed 2nd in the Mid-West Regional Championships and 3rd place in the Nationals. All Americans were T. Alford and Nic Wisecarver as National Champions, and Steve Cobos, Daryl Horton, Ben Zuber, A.J. Washington, Andy Haffele, and Pat McCauley all placed 3rd in the National Tournament. 2001 The 60th annual Brigade Boxing Championships were held on the 23rd of February 2001 at Halsey Field House. 125 #’s T. Alford vs. Brian Hawkins Navy placed 1st in the Mid West Regions in 2001 and finished 3rd in the Nationals. Steve Cobos and Ben Zuber were National Champions, and Dustin Lonero and A.J. Washington were National runner-ups. Placing 3rd at the Nationals were T. Alford, Nick Sidiropoulos and Pat McCauley. The Naval Academy Plebe Boxing Competition was held in Halsey Field House on August 9, 2001. Coaches were Jim McNally, Jim Searing and Ens Art Ball USN. The Referee was Coach McNally and the judges were Midshipment Ryan O’Connell, Mike Reel and Adam Mallo. Participants in this year’s Smoker included: 132 #’s Earl Biglow vs. David Brown 2002 The Brigade Boxing Championships were held on the 22nd of February 2002 at Halsey Field House. Mr. Jim Searing and Capt Rob Burrell USMC assisted in the corners. Finalists were: 119 #’s Aaron Burciaga vs. Ahmad Ghaffar Navy received 1st place in the Mid West Regional Team Championships and were 2nd at the National Tournament. Eight Midshipmen received All American honors. Ben Zuber was also the 2002 Naval Academy Club Sport Male Athlete of the Year. Frank Parisi and Ben Zuber were National Champions. Adam Mallo, Steve Cocos, and Amir Shareef were National runner-ups, and Josh Veney, Ahmad Ghaffar, and Nick Sidiropoulos placed 3rd . The Plebe Summer Boxing Smoker was held on July 31, 2002 at Alumni Hall. Coach McNally was the referee and Mr. Jim Searing, Midshipmen Byron Owen, Dale Crowner and Amir Shareef were the judges. The boxing card for the Summer Program was: 132 #’s Kyle Reddinger vs. Chris Whiddon 2003 The 2003 Brigade Boxing Championships were held on the 28th of February 2003 at Halsey Field House. Mr. Jim Searing and LCdr Jon Carriglitto USN assisted in the corners for these twelve bouts. Finalists were: 112 #’s Josh Veney vs. Billy Coakley Navy received 1st place in the Mid West Regional Team Championships and were 2nd at the National Tournament. Eleven Midshipmen received All American honors. Amir Shareef was the only National Champion. Billy Coakley, Jeremy Biggs, B. Villanueva and Rick Weil were all National runner-ups. Adam Mallo, Frank Parisi, Mike Reel, Agus Adams, David Rainey, and Greg Watten were all third place finishers at the Nationals. Plebe Boxing Championships held on August 3, 2003 at the Halsey Field House with Mr. Jim McNally as the referee and Midshipmen Brett Johnson, Chris Lonero, Greg Watten, Jeremy Biggs and Nick Tawill as judges. Particpants in the Finals were: 132 #’s Scott Wood vs. Daniel Shilling 2004 This year’s program was the 63rd annual and was held at Halsey Field House on February 27, 2004. Head Coach was Jim McNally assisted by Mr. Jim Searing and LCdr Jon Carriglitto USN. The first bout of the evening featured two female Midshipman at 125 #’s. Bouts this year included: 125 #’s Maia Molina-Schaefer vs. Amber Coleman |
