Born and raised in Philadelphia, McNally started his boxing career at Joe Frazier's boxing gym. He graduated in 1981 with a B.S. degree in Health and Physical Education from Lock Haven Universtiy in Pennsylvania. While a student at Lock Haven, McNally and another student started a boxing club and team which has been going strong ever since. While competing for Lock Haven, McNally won the Eastern Championship, placed third at nationals and earned All-American honors.


In 1988, McNally received his M.A. degree in Health Education from Arcadia Universtiy. Coach McNally started coaching at Navy in 1986. Prior to coming to Navy McNally was a teacher in Philadelphia School District, and coached boxing at a Police Athletic League gym. While coaching at Navy, his teams have won five national championships and been runner-up ten times. He has coached 42 individual national championships who have won 59 national titles.


He is Professor in the Physical Education Department. McNally also enjoys officiating and was one of twelve world level AIBA (Amateur International Boxing Association) officials in the United States. He has refereed and judged at 30 international boxing events to include world level tournaments, dual meets, 10 world amateur championships, the '07 Pan Am Games and the '08 Beijing Olympic Games. After the Olympics, he has decided to retire from officiating.

Jim Searing is a 1971 graduate of the Naval Academy. He boxed all four years and was a Brigade Champ in 1971. As a midshipman, Searing was the first Regimental Commander adn wond the leadership award for his graduation class. Searing entered the Marine Corps after graduation. As a Marine, Searing spent time as an artillery, supply, logistics and as a fiscal officer. He was also a Company Commander.
In 1979, Coach Searing received his MBA from Harvard. Prior to moving into the executve search business where he was been the last twenty years, he was a marketing executive at AT&T. Searing is currently co-owner of his own firm Foster/Searing Ltd. He and his wife Bonnie reside in Reston, VA.
